Job Description - Position Overview

JOB TITLE – Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician
JOB LOCATION – NOVAIR North American Headquarters, North Tonawanda, NY
JOB SUMMARY – We are seeking a skilled and motivated Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician to join our factory team. In this hands-on role, you will focus on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining medical gas and vacuum equipment, while also supporting production assembly and testing processes. You will serve as a key technical resource by handling field customer troubleshooting calls, providing remote support, and conducting training sessions for field service technicians. Note: This role involves significant travel (up to 80%), including potential international assignments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair faults in medical gas systems, vacuum pumps (e.g., oilless claw, dry rotary vane, lubricated systems), air compressors, and related equipment.  
  • Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and component replacement to ensure optimal performance and compliance with industry standards.  
  • Assist in factory production assembly, testing, and quality assurance of medical gas and vacuum systems.  
  • Respond to customer field service calls via phone/email for remote troubleshooting of installed equipment issues.  
  • Conduct technical training sessions and provide guidance to field service technicians on equipment operation, maintenance, and best practices.  
  • Document all repairs, maintenance activities, service calls, and training sessions accurately.  
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and service teams to improve processes and resolve complex issues.  
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment in the factory and during travel/field-related activities. 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Technical certificate or Associate degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related field (preferred; equivalent hands-on experience considered).  
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in repairing and maintaining biomedical, medical, or complex industrial equipment (minimum 3–5 years maintaining complex industrial systems required).  
  • Proven experience with PLC-based control systems 
  • Strong troubleshooting ability in electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems, including reading schematics and using diagnostic tools (multimeters, pressure/vacuum gauges, etc.).  
  • Ability to travel up to 60% if needed, including international travel, for customer support, installations, training, or on-site troubleshooting.  
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written – with strong professional customer presence; ability to explain technical concepts clearly to customers, field techs, and team members.  
  • Background as a technician or engineer in a related field (no degree strictly required, but relevant education a plus).  
  • Familiarity with medical gas standards (e.g., NFPA 99) and safety protocols is highly desirable; knowledge of compliance requirements for medical gas and vacuum systems preferred.  
  • Preferred certifications: ASSE 6040 (Medical Gas Systems Maintenance Personnel) or equivalent credentials in medical gas maintenance/repair; other relevant certifications (e.g., ASSE Series 6000) a plus.  
  • Strong leadership qualities: self-starter, motivated to excel, proactive problem-solver, and eager to take initiative and grow within the company.  
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative team.  
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. 

Preferred

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or FDA-regulated environments.
